Chapter 9 · 9.4
Using a watermark
A watermark is a light piece of text or an image placed diagonally or straight across every page, for example "DRAFT" or "CONFIDENTIAL". This way, anyone reading or printing the document immediately sees that it's not a final version, or that it shouldn't be shared further. Handy before you share a document.
Adding a watermark
- Open the document and go to the Layout tab.
- Click the Watermark button (1), on the right of the tab: the sheet with the letter A. If your screen is wide enough, the word Watermark appears underneath it. Choose Custom watermark.

- Choose Text watermark (1).
- Under Text, type your own text (2), or choose a text from the list. With Language, you decide which language the ready-made texts in the list are shown in.
- Choose the font, the colour and whether the text is semi-transparent. Under Layout, choose Diagonal or Horizontal.
- Click OK.

The watermark now appears on every page of the document.

Prefer a logo as your watermark? Then choose Image watermark and Select image: from your computer, from your Nextcloud, or via a web address. Under Scale, set the size.
Removing a watermark
On the Layout tab, click Watermark and choose Remove watermark.
Please note: a watermark is part of the document itself. It makes clear that something is confidential, but it doesn't protect the document. Anyone who is allowed to edit the document can also remove the watermark. So share using View only if the recipient shouldn't be able to make changes, or send a PDF (see Printing and saving as PDF).
