Testing your nameservers, also for a .nl domain

Are you putting your domain on your own nameservers, or on those of another party? Test them first. Every registry has its own rules, and a mistake in the nameservers makes your website and email unreachable. With a few free tools you'll see within a minute whether everything is correct.

Are you using the nameservers of WebOké?

If your nameservers are set to ns1.webawere.nl and ns2.webawere.nl, you don't need to test anything: we do that. If in doubt, check in My WebOké under My Domains the card Domain / Email health, or use the free tool Domain health.

Testing your own or external nameservers

  1. Set up the zone first on the new nameservers, with all the records you need (see Using your own or external nameservers for your domain).
  2. Test with Zonemaster at zonemaster.net. Zonemaster was made by the registries of .fr and .se. If you want to test before changing the nameservers, click on Show options and enter the new nameservers there, optionally with their IP addresses. Zonemaster then tests the domain as if those nameservers are already configured. After the change, you simply test the domain.
  3. Review the results. Red (Error) must be resolved. Orange (Warning) is allowed, but check what it is. Common errors: a nameserver doesn't respond, the nameservers give different answers (different serial number in the SOA record), or the NS records in the zone don't match the nameservers you specify.
  4. Only then change the nameservers in My WebOké.

After the change

Some registries, such as DENIC for .de, test the new nameservers themselves before carrying out the change. If the zone isn't set up correctly yet, they'll refuse the change. For .nl the change always goes through, so testing beforehand is extra important there.

Not sure if it's set up correctly? Then leave the DNS with us: with WebOké's nameservers we handle the DNS, the signing (DNSSEC) and the checks.
